Q: What is nutritional yeast and what are some of the nutritional benefits?
A: Nutritional yeast has long been considered a healthy dietary supplement because it’s both low in calories and carbs, and high in protein. It's often used as a cheese replacement in dairy-free recipes because it has a naturally cheesy, nutty, savory taste.
Nutritional yeast also contains iron, fiber, folic acid (non-methylated form), selenium, zinc and B vitamins, including vitamin B12. The B vitamins are the synthetic forms with the exception of natural B12. Many people who avoid meat add nutritional yeast to their diet for B12 supplementation.
Nutritional yeast is made from the single-celled organism, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, which is grown on molasses, whey or wood pulp, and then harvested, washed and dried with heat to deactivate it. Because it is not “active,” nutritional yeast doesn’t grow inside your stomach and deprive you of nutrients like baking nutritional yeast can.
Nutritional yeast is naturally gluten free. It is not derived from gluten, nor does it contain gluten. It is Kosher, Vegan and Non-GMO.
Q: I have an allergy, are the dressings manufactured in a facility that contains dairy, eggs, or nuts?
A: A: Yes, our dressings are manufactured in a shared facility and on a shared line with other products that contain most of the major 8 allergens, however our products are
on a set schedule, and are run in order from Vinaigrette to Creamy dressings. They do clean
equipment and do allergen testing in-between runs. If anything is detected then it is cleaned down
again. The ranch dressing does contain eggs.
Q: Are your eggs cage free?
A: Yes! We understand that some cage-free eggs are housed next to caged chicken, however, our eggs are sourced from 100% cage-free farms.
Q: I see your mayo is Kosher, are your dressings Kosher too?
A: Yes, our Mayos are Kosher certified. With regards to our other products such as the dressings, we do follow all Kosher guidelines however they are not yet Kosher certified.
Q: What is the shelf life of your dressings?
A: One year unopened. Please refrigerate after opening and use within 60 days for maximum freshness. We dare you to try and keep it that long.
Q: What is gum acacia?
A: Gum acacia, also known as gum arabic, is derived from the sap of the acacia tree and is used in products, such as our Ranch Dressing, as an emulsifier to improve consistency and ingredient blending. The FDA has assigned the Acceptable Daily Intake level for gum acacia as “not specific”—a designation given to ingredients with little to no toxic possibility.
A small-scale human trial published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that when healthy men ingested a daily helping of 25 grams of gum acacia, the only effects experienced were a slight reduction in cholesterol serum and an increase in breath hydrogen, which is a marker of intestinal bacteria metabolism. The British Journal of Nutrition published a study that confirmed the prebiotic potential of gum acacia. Healthy volunteers who consumed gum acacia showed an increase in the growth of beneficial gut bacteria bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. In fact, the researchers concluded that gum acacia was as effective as the prebiotic inulin, which is a popular prebiotic supplement!
Q: Is the apple cider vinegar in your dressing pasteurized?
A: The Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is not pasteurized. The low pH of our dressings protects against pathogenic microorganisms, and they aren't subjected to heat in the processing because of the pH and nature of the ingredients. The eggs are pasteurized.
Q: How much apple cider vinegar is one serving of dressing?
A: Per 2 Tablespoons, there is about 2 grams of apple cider vinegar, which is less than 5% by weight. About 1/2 teaspoon per serving.
