Founder's Notes on Sun
Vitamin D is one of the most, if not the most important supplement we offer. In fact it is not technically a vitamin but a hormone, because it is so critically involved in so many metabolic pathways.
Normally, we get vitamin D from sunlight. You need the sun rays interacting with your skin and interacting with cholesterol. Sun rays are converted into vitamin D in your body. Vitamin D then becomes part of hormone manufacturing and your immune system. Vitamin D is also an integral part of what we call a proofreader gene, which looks for genetic mistakes and then prompts their repair. Vitamin D supports our immune system for optimal bone growth, and it fights against infection and bacteria.
Vitamin D3 is manufactured by the irradiation of 7-dehydrocholesterol from lanolin (sheep’s wool) and the chemical conversion of cholesterol.
Why the different forms of vitamin D? We have an elevated formula of three top vitamin D forms in the one capsule so that everyone is covered. We have found that while D3 seems to be preferred by most, some people just can't absorb it well, so we offer both forms in this "comprehensive" vitamin D supplement. We have several forms of D such as cholecalciferol, ergocalciferol, and mushrooms. One is not better than the other, it’s just that people absorb different forms, differently. So, you might be really great at absorbing cholecalciferol, but somebody else might not. And, you can take twenty of these and you are not going to OD.
